Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-6-2 Class S-1 2834 at Schenectady, New York, sometime in 1907, photo by the American Locomotive Company, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 2834 was built during 1907 as a CB&Q Class S-1, rebuilt during 1925 to CB&Q Class S-1-A, sold for scrap in December 1952. Alco built 15 S-1's during 1907, road numbers 2830-2844. During 1925 this locomotive was rebuilt with the application of new cylinders and accessories, new main frame and frame crossties, Schmidt superheater, new tube sheets and tubes to suit the superheater, new Walschaerts valve gear, new steam pipes, new front deck plate, new cross-compound air pump, new main axles and main driving boxes, and a Worthington feedwater heater. The tender was also rebuilt with four-wheel Commonwealth trucks replacing the original pedestal type. |
