WP 2-8-8-2 #258 - Western Pacific |
Description: |
Here is a fine example of a 1931 Baldiwn built 2-8-8-2 Chesapeake-type locomotive, although this website doesn't have that choice under Baldwin configurations. Specifics - M-137 class, 63" drivers, 235 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders (4), engine weight of 665,100 lb, impressive tractive effort of 137,174 lb, The entire class of M-137 were scrapped in the early 1950's after Western Pacific tested the EMD four-diesel-set and then immediately purchased them, one of the very first class one railroads to switch to diesel power. No photographer listed. Date and location are arbitrarily set as none were given but based on Nick Chillianis comment below, the date has been reset to correspond to the production date. |
