SP 2-10-2 #3724 - Southern Pacific
Title:  SP 2-10-2 #3724 - Southern Pacific
Description:  Long and sleek are appropriate descriptive words for this Baldwin Santa Fe type locomotive #3742 built in October of 1923 and matching its tender. The loco was a hard worker generating 75,150 lb of tractive force. When its days started waning on the SP, it was leased to Texas & New Orleans as their #901starting in 1950. The loco was "vacated" in January of 1953 and by March it was scrapped at the Houston yard. Specifics - F-5 class, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 29.5x32" cylinders, engine weight of 397,900 lb, tractive effort of 75,145 lb. Most of the F-5s went to the Texas & New Orleans lines, where they worked until retirement in 1949-1956. No location, date or photographer was listed for this photo.

SP 2-10-2 #3767 - Southern Pacific
Title:  SP 2-10-2 #3767 - Southern Pacific
Description:  Nice looking example of a Baldwin Santa Fe type locomotive, SP #3767, built by Baldwin in March of 1924 just sitting quietly n the West Oakland yard. In most respects, this class' design repeated the F-5s, but their fireboxes had 110 sq ft (10.2 sq m) more heating surface area thanks to the inclusion of 116 sq ft in three Nicholson thermic syphons. Their addition increased adhesion weight by less than 1,000 lb. Most of the F-5s were leased to the Texas & New Orleans lines, where they worked until retirement in 1949-1956. This loco was "vacated" in January of 1953 and scrapped later in March of 1953. Specifics - F-5 class thermic syphon, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 29.5x32" cylinders, engine weight of 409,900 lb, tractive effort of 75,145 lb. No photographer listed.
