SAR bought 37 930-class units from Goodwin from 1957 to 67. They were Alco model DL-500B "World Series" design with 1600HP 251 engines on C-C trucks and retained the classic Alco cab-unit looks; they are considered dual-ended as the blunt "B" end has a set of controls as well. Several still operate in Australia. Class-unit 930 sits on display at the National Railway Museum. |
