D&RGW K-37 490 at Alamosa, Colorado on August 17, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 490 was built by Baldwin in 1902 as standard gauge D&RG 2-8-0 Class 190 Number 1114. It was renumbered during 1924 to Class C-41 1014. During 1928 it was rebuilt at D&RGW's Burnham Shops to narrow gauge K-37 490. During 1962 it was retired, giving up its smokebox to Number 492 after that locomotive struck a large rock near Navajo, New Mexico on August 6, 1963. It is seen loaded on flat car Number 6478. |
