| The group that was restoring LIRR 39 in Riverhead had also started to acquire some rolling stock. Among other items was this MP54 baggage/RPO. These were used for storage mail and newspapers, although this one appears to have a working RPO apartment. I can recall seeing sacks of mail being tossed off the train in Manhasset when visiting my grandparents back in the 60s. |
