In March of 1971, EMD E-8 9936, still lettered for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy and paired with a sister A-unit, speeds out of Chicagos Union Station with an afternoon passenger train. The EMD E-8 was a 2,250 horsepower A1A-A1A locomotive produced between 1949 and 1954 by GM's Electro-Motive division. 450 of these locomotives were produced. with 38 going to the CB&Q. 58 E-8s have been preserved, making the E-8 one of the best-preserved classes of first-generation diesel power in the U.S. |
