We lived in Little Neck NY when I was a kid, about a block from the LIRR Port Washington Branch. This was the view from my back steps. The view from my bedroom window was similar, just a little higher. I spent many a morning rush hour looking out at the parade of Pennsy inspired-and sometimes hand me down-equipment, everything from MP 54s to double deckers. In 1968 LIRR started to get the "new" cars-theyre all retired now-Budd M-1s. This shot, traken in 1972, shows a train of M-1s making its station stop. The station itself was built in 1897 if I recall, and still serves today. |
