Horseshoe Curve-1961. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 August 1961. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8608 and #8607. Both are APS-24MS's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. They are pushing a westbound mail/express train around the Horseshoe Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Note: No caboose! |
