It was published originally in the October 1956 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 28. Photo Caption: "When new, the DD-1 was the most powerful electric engine ever built." Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #3976 and #3977; their original two-digit number is "22." Both are DD-1's (2-B+B-2) built in Juniata during July of 1910 and rated at 3,160 horsepower. #3976 was transferred to the Long Island Rail Road in April of 1928 and renumbered "350-B," but #3977 was retired in January of 1949. |
