Interesting loco built by Lima nn June of 1948. Massive, powerful and commanding to say the least and a loco with nine lives. The unit would continue long after the other Greenbriers (4-8-4's to the C&O) were retired. It was a test loco for the American Coal Enterprise as they tried developing a coal burning steam locomotive that could compete with diesel loco on a>cost basis. It also served as the Chessie Safety Special. This photo by Arthur B. Johnson. |
