Long before a GP38 unit carried the number 5548, this 1914 4-6-2 Pacific built by the Montreal Locomotive Works had the honor. Originally built for the Canadian Government Rwy as their #449, the loco was absorbed by the newly created Canadian National when the country's railroads were joined together and renumbered 5548.
