Coal Power. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Mike Usenia that was taken near Locust Gap, Pennsylvania, on 12 May 1956. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4249 and another locomotive whose number is not recorded. Both are 2-10-0 "Decapods." #4249 is an I-1SA built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during June of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in May of 1943, and retired in August of 1957 after 34 years of faithful service. Two hoppers are also visible: #183418 & #194176. |
