"S"-curve entering Exchange Place, site of fatal 1942 wreck         
On April 26, 1942 an eastbound 6-car H&M train derailed while going over 60 mph in a 12 mph zone at this spot with five deaths. Stan Fischer's book "The Subway" has a detailed account on pages 133-136.
