Here is the third of three successive duplicate 35mm color slides of photos by Bill Kern that were taken on Sunday, 4 October 1953. The location is Monocacy, Pennsylvania. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1600, an E-6S (4-4-2) "Atlantic" built in Juniata during July of 1914 and retired in April of 1956 after 42 years of faithful service. In this context, it's pulling a three-car passenger train ~ the last run of Train #685. ("Stoneborobranch"; #12 of 28) |
