| In 1990, the Acadiana Railway purchased two disconnected sections of trackage from the Union Pacific and a short piece of line from the Southern Pacific, all in southwest Louisiana. Operations over these lines began on 1 June 1990 using a pair of former Burlington Northern NW2’s. The 101 had a crawfish on its cab while the 102 had a shrimp, and here was the SHRIMP UNIT. It was EMD frame number E1093-1, built in December 1948 as Colorado & Southern 153, then became Burlington Northern 403. It went to the stillborn Dixie River as the 403 and then to the Acadiana as the 102. |
