Here is an original photo by Douglas C. Jones that was taken just East of the Coaling Tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6787, an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Lima Locomotive Works as an M-1A during April of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in September of 1946, and retired in September of 1959 after 29 years of faithful service. Partially visible in the background is the Westbound Receiving Yard. |
