The photo is a sad one of ATSF #3504 with tender #1320 sitting in the dead/scrap line in the Albuquerque Yard. This locomotive was built by Baldwin in February of 1914 originally as a 4-cylinder balanced compound Pacific type locomotive but was later converted to a simple arrangement in November, 1921 at the Topeka Shops. The loco served for nearly 35 years before being sold for scrap to Luria Brothers Company on 11/17/1949. Note that in this photo the loco has tender #1320 - not sure why. An unnknown photographer took this photo while it sat near the end of its life. |
