David Stewart	General	They are former Alco S type switchers. Remote controle operation now, note the location for a operator to stand in the former stair well on them as on the front corner here.This one no doubt had a new hood built where the others are modified Alco hood with the cabs removed. May be powered by CAT or Cummins units similar to what would be in a tractor trailer. I know some CAT C15 motors have been used in a few things, although considered small for use in railroad operations. Good shot!	2/14/2009 3:15:27 AM

David Farmer	General	These are often called a repowered slugs but by definition a slug does not have a motor and depends on a mother unit to operate. These rebuilt Alco seem to be used a lot around coal mining areas and are a repowered and cabless locomotive -- not a slog. Operation is remote from the "phone booth" to make life easier for the operator or he can ground control. Operation can vary by company and conditions and of course.	9/1/2014 6:46:06 PM
