PRR 8673, AS-18AM, 1959
Horseshoe Curve-1959. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 3 September 1959. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8673 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by the American Locomotive Company. #8673 is an AS-18AM built in March of 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. They're pushing a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignments.
